Name: Yazemeenah Rossi.
Age: I turned 60 on the 21st of December.
Where are you from and where are you based? I am from Corsica, France. I hold a dual citizenship in the US. I live in Malibu, South California.
Occupation: Photographer and model.
What are you working on? I am working on several series of photographs.
Describe your relationship to yoga and does it in any way influence your work? I started Yoga about 30 years ago. That was in Paris, with a Bikram student. I started to practice 3 times a week for 2 years and a half. Then, I moved to a softer and deeper practice, Hata, Kriya yoga with Renata Farah in Paris. She was a student of Karl G.Durkheim and we were practicing in a very small group.
What inspires you in this practice and what have you learned? This practice trained me to be deeply in touch with myself: it made me able to feel what is right, whether it has to do with food, self-care, pain release or learn how to get the message from my higher self.
I sometimes interrupt my practice and when I go back to it, I discover another layer each time, something deeper or new.
I practice mostly alone at home. I like to let myself flow from one pose to another, just by listening to the little voice guiding me inside.
Where do you go to find peace in your city and why? I have been living on a beach for 8 years. This is a choice, to have a peaceful and beautiful environment. I sleep with the sound of the waves. I made a choice to live surrounded by Nature. When I was living in cities like NY or Paris, I had created a sanctuary in each apartment. It is important for me to be in a space that invites to relax and meditate. Silence is important to me: it’s the best way to rest and be in touch with my inspiration and intuition.
What is your best advice to experience your city? I think everybody is different and I am not sure I am the best person to be asked that question. But I would probably say go by the Ocean, walk on the incredible beaches, experience the beauty of the LA nature side.
