No matter how strongly we cultivate our inner strength and confidence, no matter how positively we keep on thinking, there are times when we feel overwhelmed and hopeless. I am of course referring to the November events in Paris, but not only to them. The darkness that took over in the city of lights has been on the planet for a very long time now. When things fall apart around us, I feel that our individual challenge to survive and keep on growing, as well as our “duty” for the larger whole, is to fuel our body and mind with strength, light and love.
Life’s force is within us all the time, but we need to stimulate it and feed it like we do when we blow on a slow fire. As a yogini, this is what I am trying to practice every day, whether practicing asanas, long meditative walks, or sitting in meditation. Whatever technique speaks to you, the key is to practice. Every. Single. Day. Think of your body and mind as you would think of a fragile yet abundant garden. It needs attention and care. You are it’s guardian.
Here’s a recipe to stimulate feelings of self-love and to find some warmth, relief and comfort in your heart.
COMFORTING OIL FOR BODY AND MIND
It is easy and fast to create but maybe it will take a little extra time to find the proper ingredients. They can all be found online, in case your favorite organic store doesn’t stock them. Always buy therapeutic grade oils and certified organic if possible.
What you need:
4 drops of tangerine essential oil; citrus reticulata: this oil has a very soothing effect on the nervous system, lowering stress and tension levels.
3-4 drops of pine essential oil; pinus sylvestris: this oil helps in times of weakness and feelings of fatigue. It warms the body and helps the overall circulation within the body. It uplifts and cleanses both mind and body.
5-7 drops of Lavender; lavandula angustifolia: this oil is one of the most powerful of all to calm the nervous system and heart, as well as to relieve the mind from anger.
6 drops of Vanilla extract; vanilla planiflolia: vanilla is warm and comforting. It is sedative, relaxes the nervous system, lifts the mood and soothes angry, fearful emotional states.
5 drops of Geranium rose; pelargonium roseum: it lifts the spirit, lowers anxiety and depressed states. It reduces stress and tones the nervous system. If you cannot find the Geranium rose variety, you can go for Pelargonium graveolens, which is more common.
50 – 60 ml of coconut oil (MCT) or sweet almond oil
A 100 ml dark glass bottle
Mix all the essential oils in the coconut oil or sweet almond oil, shake well and apply on the sternum, solar plexus, upper and lower back. It will bring comfort to the distressed hearts, lower stress levels and stimulate the immune system in the process.

Always test on your inner arm to see if you are not allergic to one of the components.
